Wrapped around a powerful industrial music core, Zonk’t’s latest album, Beat wins you and me, develops itself on a base of heavy rhythmic figures and dark, groovy hip-hop where abound sound textures and electronic frequencies inspired by Techno Animal, Alec Empire and Pan Sonic (“War”, “Pore”). Other tracks present mechanical accents (“Clutter”, close to Esplendor Geometrico), epileptic techno beats (“Phlegmon”, sort of –extremely efficient- Pandora’s sound box) and even a Wagnerian flavour with “Glaire”, its symphonic loop, both tribal and aggressive, emerging from a noisy, analogical sound mass. If Beat Wins you and me may be viewed as the most intense and extreme record Zonk’t has ever delivered, it is no less a work full of nuance, subtlety and like constantly reinventing itself.
